1ST draft of article.

__________, the newest artsist to rise off the streets and achieve superstardom without the release of an album yet. Is this the new drake as this boy is still 18 but he made more money than most of you in a year than you in a lifetime. So why is this youngster making so much cash and ho wis he trying to change the game?

1st draft of article
How did you get started with Hip Hop?
Well growing up in Detroit was hard man you either battled on the streets or you just stayed home doing F**K all (ha-ha) so yeah my art was born on the streets like most other rappers

But you changed your style from the gangsta rap to a classier version of the same music?
Yeah man I will always have the streets in my blood but when I was growing up in the streets I was always dreaming of bigger things. I always dreamt that I would be able top change the game and in a way, not being big headed (hahaha), but I think I have started to.

Well you must be because without your 1st album release you still getting money?
I know its unbelievable how much I be making just of these mixtapes and the collabs I have done, its all easy work in the end.

Is it really that easy?
Well about a year ago I was just releasing my 1st mixtape into the streets and it got picked up with a month by a producer who gave it to birdman and then I got a phone call up of him saying that he can here what I am doing to change the rap scene and he likes it and thought he could make millions. So then I signed to Cash money and then everything started to roll.

So how old are you?
I only be 18 you know but I am an 18 year old inside a maybach (hahaha)

So you still got years in the game left?
Yeah I plan to be here for year’s man. No hater can take me away from this art.

So when you was growing up in Detroit who were u listening to?
Well of course I was listening to Eminem, Dre and Fiddy them three cats changed the game. I also listened to a bit of James Brown, Ray Charles and Marvin Gaye I loved that soul music and I think that was what influenced me to try to mix soul and hip hop to create a more powerful genre that the two.

Yeah this mix you have created in-between RnB and hip hop its well loved by most other artists in the game but some artist true to the game a questioning it
Yeah I am happy with all the respect that the music has got me in the rap game with some legends of the game like snoop and Dre. But there are some haters that say that I am destroying the game (coughs ‘Ice Cube)

So these haters what you say to them?
All I have to say to these bitter old b**ches that I aint destroying the game I am evolving it and they should think about trying some new s**t someday cos they are the ones that are destroying the game by not moving along. \

So you say that Dre got respect for you that mean you met him?
Yeah man I got to fly out to his studio an record a song for my album and I think it is a truly mindblowing experience to record a song with the legend that is Dre.

So that song is it going to be a single?
Yeah it is planned to be the 2nd or 3rd single released from the album. It isn’t the 1st as the song is related more to my roots in the street and not mixed with the soul influences so I want to get the genre I am inventing out there 1st in my 1st single.

So then to round things off what is the craziest thing you have bought so far?
Wel you know I still be a youngster so I still be into video games and gadget so I had an xbox plated gold and embedded diamonds into it and did so same to my iphone. I cn show that old b**ches how to stunt(hahahaha)

photoshoot plan.

Ideas for my photo shoot
  • I will be using high powered lights that will be able to create a strong shadow behind my artist.
  • I will have my artist in a suit have a picture with the whole suit on then have a more relaxed picture maybe with just the waistcoat with no tie.
  • The shadow I will be creating with the lighting will have a crown on his head while the front picture of the artist will just be wearing a fedora.
  • I have my friend to be my artist as I believe that his tallness with go very well in my magazine.
  • My front cover picture will be a medium close up- capturing both the artist and his shadow.
  • I will toy around with other shots including close up and full body shots and maybe some with him facing away to break the conventions.

demographic and psycographic profiling for my magazine.

Demographic profile of my magazines audience:-
  • Gender-Male
  • Age- 15-20
  • Geographical- London
  • Socio-economic group- B and C I have chosen this group as these are the groups that will have a little money to spare to be able to get the luxury goods that are advertised and the artists have in my magazine.
Psychographic profiling:-
The group that my magazine is aimed at is the Aspirers (these people are motivated by status. They buy smart, high tech and high fashion goods) I have chosen this group as my magazine is going to show this side of hip hop with the expensive fashion, cars, tech and champagne. So the readers will aspire to get the things that the artists have in the magazine.

Questionnaire analysis

  • this graph show the number of people that liked each genre at specific ages.
  • this helps my magazine as it shows that the age group that likes hip hop is 15-25 then as the ages increased so did the popularity of the music.
  • this clearly shows me that my magazine should be aimed at 25-25 year olds.
  • I found that it was more males who chose my genre of hip hop and the age range of them was rather young 15-20.
  • And they wanted to pay a lower price of between 3 and 4.
  • The thing that they look for most is the artist that is on the cover of the magazine.
  • Most of the males who chose hip hop liked to see a new artist on the cover so they can keep up with the latest music.

analysis of the download top 40 to see where my genre of music fits in.

Inthe download top 40 there are 12 songs in the top 40 that can be linked to the genre hip hop this shows that the genre of hip hop and rap is slowly moving its way into popular British music so with this information i believe that releasing my magazine would come at the right time as the music gets more popular so will the music magazines. this would make my magazine a mix betwwen a niche mag and aq well known one as teh music is quite well know nowadays but not every person just likes the hip hop and rap genre so will only be bought be real fans taht will make it a niche market.
    • The colour scheme is black red and white which follows the colour scheme that is seen in hip hop magazines making it instantly recognizable.
    • The artist is the main prominent figure on the album cover so you know its all about the artist and he is the best.
    • Something that makes the listener want to aspire to be them whether it be woman, expensive clothes or champagne and cigars on album cover or in this case and expensive car that almost inspires the listen to want to own what the artist owns.
    • The artist wearing baggy clothes and no shirt is a convention of hip hop music to show off the artist’s tattoos and maybe gang relation.
    • Although the normal convention is to wear baggy or no clothes I plan to put my artist in a suit to bring hip hop into the new decade

The instution to publish my magazine is IPC

IPC seemed the most likely institution to publish my magazine as they have a large diversity of media interests. IPC also distriputes NME, due to this i believe that the unique premise of my magazine would be an appealing investment to teh institution. also due to the international fame of IPC i would be able to get advertising for my magazine it lot sof other magazines and TV shows.

    unique selling point

my magazine will be an upper-class hip-hop magazine that takes it away from the gangs and baggy clothes and introduces a new breed of rapper that is at heart a true rapper but also has embraced the 'gentleman look' with suits, instead of guns it will be bottle of champagne as an example.

    analysis of magazines feature article

although this example isnt a double page feature like the one that i am creating it follows the ideas that i have very well. it has the colour scheme of the magazine that i am using red black and white. also the interview is set out in the Q&A format which i think is the best way to put an article into a magazine.

    analysis of magazines contents page

once again i like the colours that the genre pics the red black and white. as it makes it clean and fresh that represents the genre. i would like to use more images on my contents page to invite the readers in more and get them interested in the articles more. the artist is wearing baggy clothes to represent the genre, but i would like to bring it a little more up-class with my artist in a suit rather than baggy clothes.

    Feedback 27.1.11

Adam, well done. This is good work. Please ensure that you also upload the sekcvt/plan for the contents page for your prelim task and also try to reflect a little more fully on the task. Good analysis of a front cover. Please do the same for a contants and feature article. Carry on with this research for homework. Also, please book a workshop time for next week for an evening that works for you. See Mike or Nikki for this.

    Mrs A

from this magazine cover i like the close up photo but i think i will use a medium close up to get more of the artist on the cover. also i like the colour scheme of the cover with the red, white and black that is something that i may consider. i will definitely use the barcode with both the date and web address on it.

    preliminary Task

i learnt to cut out images in greater detail to provide a better image on the cover. i also liked the post-stick cutout that was like a border for the news story's. i did not really like the title i will figure out a better way to do the title for my magazine.

    conventions of magazines

There are a few different conventions of magazines that nearly all magazines follow:
    Image and header:
    • The image on the front of the magazines must correspond to the content and target audience of the magazine.
    • The name of the magazine (header) must also correspond to the content and target audience of the magazine.
    • The colour scheme of the magazine must also create a house style that is appealing towards the target audience.
    Mode of address:
    ·         This is the way that the text creates a relationship with its target audience.
    ·         The most common mode of address is direct address this is created when the artist on the cover is looking straight out of the magazine, this invites the reader in
    ·         Indirect address is when the person looks away and is not the convention although it has been used in some magazines.
    ·         Mode of address can also refer to the writing in the magazine and how it addresses the reader normally in a friendly and informal way.
    Stars and celebrates
    • Music magazines normal will have an artist on the cover to increase sales.
    • The audience admires the stars and with them on the cover they will want to know what they have said in the magazine.
    Magazine covers
    • The front cover of a magazine is the main advertisement. Because of this it must represent the magazine as a whole.
    • It should be bright, intresting and eye catching to entice its readers into buying the magazine.
    • The colours should both represent the target audience and also the music that the magazine is about.
    • Normally there is a variety of fonts on the cover to make it visually interesting and eye catching.
    • The title of the magazine is normally at the top of the page(this logo will also create the brand image of the magazine making it instantly recognisable  for its readers)
    • Sometimes a slogan is used under the main header to explain the magazines content.
    • One main star on the front either in close up or medium always as a direct address
    • The leading caption normally dominates the cover. This will be the advertise the main article with the cover star.
    • Subheadings of all the other main storys that are in the magazine usually appearing on the left and right sides of the magazine.
    • Date and barcode on cover and normally now with a web address.
    Contents page
    • Should be bright and colourful- encouraging the reader to read on.
    • Images dominate the text. Images with page numbers dominate the page.
    • Again direct address is used in all images
    • The title or header usually appears on every page(usually at top corner)
    • List of contents- usually under usual section.

    initial ideas

My initial ideas are to create a hip hop magazine that will feature a new break out star on the scene. I will create an artist that corresponds to the conventions of the genre. I will discover what these conventions are by studying and reviewing similar magazines, e.g. VIBE and XXL. I plan on the front cover being a medium close of my star with a shadow in the background but with the shadow wearing a crown while the star wears a different hat this will be created by taking two different pictures with one creating the crown shadow and the other the artist and the cut them out on Photoshop and place them together.
